Condolence & Memory Journal

Dear Larry and family, we recently heard about Garland's passing. We know that it was a great loss. We have never known anyone that had a greater love for God, family, and church than Garland. He was loved and respected by all that knew him, including Barbara and me. We also had not heard about Nancy's passing until we saw the obituary. You have been truly blessed with such loving parents.
Love in the Lord Christ Jesus

Dear Larry,Janice and Jeannie,
I just heard of Garland's passing and my heart is so very heavy. I truly loved that man. I know for sure he is with his Nancy and Bobby. You were blessed with wonderful parents and I also know that they are with their Lord. I pray that you receive the strength you need to get through this time and always remember the blessings your Mom and Dad were. May God Bless you.

Garland will be missed in this life, but we are happy that he will know no more pain. To know that he is praising God around the throne at this very moment, and to know that Jesus welcomed him home with open arms is very comforting.
We will always remember how he wanted others to know his Jesus and how he loved helping and serving others.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

There are so many memories of Garland and Nancy over more than 50 years that it would take many pages to record them. One that meant a lot to me was all the he gave me in building sets for the Jr. High Choir musicals that we did back in the 70's. I remember his help in planning the surprise 75th birthday party for "Mom Taber", my mother. Then there was all the work he did for our daughter, Tracey's wedding reception. The list goes on and on. I am thankful for the years of friendship Mike & I had with Garland and Nancy. I can see Garland, Nancy & Mike and many others of our friends who have passed on and are now rejoicing in heaven.

To all the family please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all.

Love to all,

Garland was a good friend and much to be admired. He loved Jesus and served His people, always. He served not the "beautiful" but those who were elderly or sick or in great need. There were some that didn't look or act or smell normal - Garland served them too. He is much to be admired.

When Emmanuel Christian School construction was in it's early stages, Garland and I stood on the slab early in the morning and he said to me, "You know, I would rather be a janitor in God's house than any other job I know." Not too long after that, construction was complete and Garland was a janitor in God's house.

We prayed together, laughed together and cried together but his servant's spirit never left. Garland was special.

Garland and Nancy Fones were among the best folks to ever attend Emmanuel. Great Christian gentleman with a contagious sweet spirit. Garland loved people and people loved im. He loved to have fun at other people's expense at times but you always knew he loved you. He loved his Savior even more. Godly, generous and giving - that was Garland Fones. My prayers are with all the family!

Garland was the first neighbor I met when I moved to my new home. He was such a delightful man with a twinkle in his eye. It would make my day when I ran into him, which was, unfortunately, not often enough.

Garland was a dear and gentle man. He saw my family through our darkest hours before my Mom died. He would come to the hospital and set and pray for my Mom. We loved him dearly. My friend now you're up there in that heavenly home with her, so please look after her just like you did before she passed away. Rest in peace dear friend.

Garland was a wonderful friend and follower of Jesus Christ. Together we went many places sharing Christ, ministering to people, helping the distressed. His children are loved as well as his wife and son who died before him. I will always remember his spirit, his work ethic in the church and huis love of people.
