BARRIE RUTH JONES TYDINGS, 72 of Haymarket, Virginia passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Avalon Home, McLean, Virginia after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

She was born on September 11, 1940 in Wheeling, West Virginia to Ralph W. and Ruth Christine Jones. She graduated from Chatham High School in Chatham, New Jersey. Barrie attended Mary Washington University prior to attending the University of Virginia. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. In 1962 Barrie received a BSN from The University of Virginia School of Nursing.

Barrie married Ronald W. Tydings, Sr. in California in 1962. As a young wife and mother, she worked as a nurse to put her husband through law school. Later, she became active in real estate. She was a loving person who often put others' needs ahead of her own. She was known as a gracious hostess and her family and friends enjoyed the fruits of her artistic abilities. Barrie enjoyed golfing, skiing, traveling, entertaining and was an avid fan and supporter of UVA sports.

Survivors include her loving husband of 50 years, Ronald W. Tydings, Sr.; two children, Ronald W. Tydings, Jr. and wife Ana of St. Petersburg, Florida and Kevin W. Tydings and wife Cassandra of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Claiborne W. and Katherine G. Tydings; and one brother, Ralph W. Jones, Jr. and wife Patsy of Hilton, New York. She is preceded in death by her parents.

A celebration of Barrie's life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 3701 Pender Drive, Suite 400, Fairfax, Virginia 22030 in loving memory of Barrie Ruth Jones Tydings.
